Brno restaurants

Hello There

Im hoping GCEK will be around to answer this one!

I will be in Brno tomorrow for 3 days and I would absolutely love to try the Pork Knuckle since so many on here suggest it. Im not sure what it is written as on the menu, most of the menus being in czech and whatnot. Also, what is a good reputable restaurant (with directions( that will not take advantage of the price. I found Prague to be very unnecessarily expensive!

Thank you for your help and I apologize for the spelling mistakes. The keyboard takes a bit to get used to!

Don%26#39;t worry - nowhere will take advantage of the price. Brno is not Prague :) There are several places where you can get one - off the top of my head in or near the centre they do a very good pork knuckle at U potrefené Husy pivovary-staropramen.cz/web/… - the beer is no good, though (it is a Staropramen branded pub)

Otherwise my particular favourite is the Starobrno brewery - you will need to get a tram to Mendlovo namesti. From in front of the rail station number 1 will get you there.

The best of all in the centre is Hotel Pegas with its microbrewery …hotelpegas.cz/english-about-alehouse/ - I don%26#39;t know if they have pork knuckle there but the beer is fantastic and the food is very good as well. If you are standing in the main square (namesti Svobody) with the big white glass bank on your left walk up the pedestrian street with KFC on the corner - called Česká street - past Barvič and Novotný bookshop and then turn right down Jakubska and there you go. There are several reviews about it in TA as well.

Another good pub is the Zelena Kocka (Green Cat) on Solnicni, which is a bit further up Česká and to the right. Good beer and good food.

BTW for an excellent pizza, go to Jadran at the bottom of Masarykova.

I could go on, but I%26#39;m in a bit of a hurry - this should keep you going!

Enjoy your stay!

GCEK, I must say thank you! We ate at Hotel Pegas tonight. Although there was no pork knuckle on the menu, I ordered the slices of Pork Leg and it was absolutely wonderful! It was delicious with a very beautiful presentation. Thank you for this suggestion

Thanks GCEK have printed this out!

Glad you enjoyed it - it also has some of the best beer in the country in there.

In your quest for pork knuckle you could also try U Formana - the %26#39;Švejk%26#39; pub at the top of Česká street.

There is also a new place on Česká http://www.stredovekakrcma.com/index.php - I have never been there, but they appear to have port knuckle there.

Of course the very best place of all is Blahovka bvv.cz/i2000/… which is consistently voted one of the top ten pubs in the country (no. 1 a couple of years ago) - it is only small and is usually full, but don%26#39;t let that put you off. It is also not quite in the centre- you need to get tram no. 4 from the middle of the main square going away from the railway station I think three stops - it is on a small street with some good little pubs and restaurants next to one another and is locals only, but %26#39;outsiders%26#39; are definitely not turned away! Whiskey Bar (on the same street as Blahovka) is good if you like whiskey, obviously - and if you like steak tartare that is the place to have it!

There is also a very good sushi bar around the corner on Údolní http://www.koishi.cz/en/ (with a %26#39;real%26#39; Japanese chef!)
