prague to usti nad labem

hi all,

have to get from prague to usti nad labem for a few days when i go to prague in october.

i went on the train to dresden last time and passed usti but just wondering will i take the train again as the view all the way up was great or is there anything to see getting the bus up or is it just all motorways.any views or ideas greatly welcome.

You might as well get the train, but there%26#39;s no harm in getting the bus for a change - it is cheaper, and only takes about 10 minutes longer. The train might be more picturesque, though, as it follows the Elbe - the bus will just go up the motorway to Lovosice and then cut across the hills to Ústí, where it follows the same route.

History and circumstances have not been kind to Ústí over the years - it was severely damaged in the War and was not rebuilt sensitively. There are big plans for its revitalisation, however. It also has some severe social problems, but I haven%26#39;t stayed there for any length of time so I won%26#39;t dismiss it. It may well the the life and the soul of the Czech Republic :)

The surrounding landscape is wonderful, though - take a look at the city website for more information usti-nl.cz/en/…tourism-project.html

thanks GCEK.

yea i have looked up a lot about usti allready.my friend is from there and is returning home for a while so thats what i am going for.i have seen a lot of pictures from her facebook and it looks lovely all around but she has told me the city itself has a few problems.

recently there has been a lot of neo nazi marchs and such there as well.i think that it was bombed along with dresden when the war was supposed to be finished.so they celabrate this????

think i might get the bus for the change as you said it is probably cheaper.

thanks philip

I think it has more to do with the social problems and the lack of employment that GCEK hinted but did not say (so I won%26#39;t either) rathen than with the war itself.

I won%26#39;t go into it here either, but suffice to say it is nothing to do with the war (although maybe as a far-reaching consequence of the war ... ).

Sorry to be so cryptic - this isn%26#39;t really the forum for political discussions :) Your friend will probably be able to explain.

thanks all,

she has filled me in a good bit and will find out more when i get there.

another twist to my trip i suppose.have always wanted to see another side to the czech republic rather than just prague.

thanks again and for your understanding of the issue and the way it came across.
