Stag do in Brno

We come in peace. We promise not to get too drunk or sing. Can anyone recommend a few bars or night clubs that will accept a group (10-15) and that are good. Any other advice appreciated. Looking forward to it

You could try the city%26#39;s biggest meat market, Tabarin, but good luck getting in. Most places (including the %26#39;usual%26#39; stag haunts - you know what I mean :)) have discovered that large groups of English guys, well-behaved or not, are generally persona non grata.

You say you won%26#39;t get %26#39;too%26#39; drunk - in all the years that I lived there the only people that I ever saw who were visibly/audibly drunk at all were either crashed out in the homeless section of the railway station or English! And the same goes for singing - it is therefore not surprising that the local population will lump the two above groups together and steer well clear.

Then there is the obvious Charlies (just ask anyone when you are there), but that can get very crowded and your group might have to split up, but there are very few other places to go. Maybe Two Faces or Potrefena Husa (Google them) but again, the door policy is strict - no English.

Brno is a wonderful medieval city with loads of things to see, and is a lot lot cheaper and friendlier than Prague, but I wouldn%26#39;t say that it is a great place for a stag party - I%26#39;m not saying that just to put you off - I have had my fair share of debauchery in that city but it is not the same as it was. I was also a %26#39;local%26#39; so it was a different situation.

Enjoy yourselves anyway!

Thanks for the advice, hopefully we won%26#39;t be too persona non grata. Not looking for anything too raucous - but a friendly atmosphere wouldn%26#39;t go amiss! Any other advice appreciated! Anyone else been on a group do to Brno??

i have been going there for long wkends since 2000,the first time we went was the best i rekon,the locals very friendly to the point i ended up with a girlfriend for a yr,anyway each time i go back starting to find the locals less n less friendly each time,think maybe there gettin prague syndrome with the english!anyway if u split up %26amp; lern a handfull of cz words eg hi how are u,good evening ect the doormen tend to let u in.so pubs/bars

start off something like bar husa,green cat,charlies,

end up in tamberian,remix,%26amp; new club but cant remeber what its called!blink tho %26amp; u mite miss them!

Thanks for the tips

Just remember - it is a much smaller place than Prague and is very quiet - pretty much all the places to go are under the ground in the medieval catacombs, such as Charlies, so large groups of English blokes (well-behaved or not) tend to stand out like a sore thumb in the evening!

In the %26#39;old days%26#39; it was the East Germans who used to be reviled, as they used to come and drink loads of beers and go to the strip clubs. However, people are starting to get all nostalgic and say that all is forgiven after they have seen what the alternative is!

The best time to go was probably about 16/17 years ago when it was all very free and easy and foreigners were welcomed with open arms, but now they have become hardened to the gritty reality...

A few Czech words would not go amiss, though.

Dekuji. Isn%26#39;t there a large student population? Do they not tolerate the english any more than locals?

|||

There is indeed a large student population BUT they tend to prefer a cup of coffee and keep themselves to themselves - it is not like in the UK at all!

If they do go out, it is on a Friday night but as people do not tend to move home to go to university, most of them are locals anyway and prefer to meet their friends at their local pubs outside the centre.

If anything, they will have the least tolerance towards large groups of English blokes!

Also at weekends many people go with their mates to their country cottages which usually involves large amounts of alcohol and sausages.

It is a totally different way of doing things - young city Czechs just don%26#39;t go out and drink large amounts of an evening to the pub with the intention of getting drunk. Czech pubs are not conducive to that anyway - you have to sit down at tables and it is perfectly possible to drink 10 pints in a sitting without getting drunk as you eat and talk while drinking - it is much more civilised :)

There are much better ways of drinking to excess and having fun while doing so and if you want to experience that you will need to go out to the countryside at Easter or in the summer and look for a village %26#39;zabava%26#39; - now that is a sight to behold, and pretty much anything goes ;) or you can find somebody who will invite you to their %26#39;chata%26#39; - country cottage.

Have fun!

Dave,

I%26#39;m off to Brno for my Stag on the May Bank Holiday Weekend. I%26#39;ve been informed that it%26#39;s basically Prague 15 years ago before it was over taken by stag do%26#39;s! The beer is still cheap (about 50p/pint) and there suppossed to be some quality pubs, clubs and lasses about!

When are you going for yours?

|||

Hi there, I am currently planning my brothers stag do for mid May and am trying to work out whether i should head to Tallinn or Brno?

Does anyone have any advice? Cos at the moment time is running out and we could end up in Bognor...

Thanks loads in advance!
