Prague-Vienna Train

Hi, I checked in the pendolino site and saw only one train departing everyday at 8am. Does anyone knows if there is another train departing maybe at 12pm or 2 pm?

Thanks!!

There are numerous trains and buses too. Check www.idos.cz for details.

P.S. EuroCity 173 Vindobona leaves Holesovice at 1333, arrives Vienna 1803.

Hi

I am plannign to take the 8:30 EC train to vienna from Prague on 4 Oct 09. How long before do I need to show up at the station to comfortably buy 2 tickets at the international counter? Do they accept international credit cards?

Thanks

EC73 Franz Schubert leaves from Holesovice station, not from Hlavni (just in case you don%26#39;t know). I would get there at least 1 hour before the train departure, sometimes there are queues ! They do take credit cards.

But better advice would be to get the ticket a day or so in advance, then you would just need 15 minutes. But even better, if you buy your ticket on the Czech railways eshop website, you%26#39;ll get the best price. Currently this is 496Kc (19 eu) one way per person.

Thanks KVK Fan..we are staying at V Jame, which I guess means 5-6km to holesovice..would that be 15 min or more by taxi?

|||

Jama is I think a one way street - hence maybe more complicated for a taxi driver to get to Wilsonova ring road - but I guess 15 minutes will be OK at that time of the day.

Your other alternative is to take a tram 14 from Vodickova to Holesovice station (18Kc ticket) and the trip takes about 16 minutes. The station is just at the bottom end of Jama (which is a very short street anyway), 14 tram goes about each 10 minutes.

thanks again..just one last query..the eshop does not allow me to book a first class ticket..is that specific to online purchase?

|||

No, only 2nd class (there are some exception for 1st I think to Berlin/dresden) but not on this route.

There is really not any smallest need to be there 1 hour before the departure. You don%26#39;t need to stay there so long, trust me. :-) Although there is one quite nice waiting room there (next to the counters). I would personally come in about 10-15 minutes beforehand, as a foreigner you might need about 20-30 minutes, but even then there is plenty of time.

And if something very unusual happen (probability about 0,01) - there is still the possibility to buy the tickets from the conductor on board. In the worst case you%26#39;re allowed even to come to the station about 2 minutes before the departure and encounter the train directly - nobody would be interested at all.

This costs 30 CZK (about 1 EUR) more - yes not very good feeling, but nothing forbidden and in such a probabilitiy I would surely risk it (only problem: you must have a cash then). But really, much more probably will the train be 20 minutes late. ;-)

Arriving one hour before the departure, you%26#39;d almost catch the previous train. :-)) By the way, with the exception of Pendolino (or an unnecessary seat reservation) you can use any train you want to on that day, they are not restricted to the specific one (so there are no %26quot;8:30 train tickets%26quot; and if you asks for one, hardly anybody would understand what you mean).

You can turn up 2 minutes before the train goes if you want, but it will cost you a lot more that way - the cheapest way is to buy a ticket on-line here at €19
