Really enjoyed our stay in Prague - Apartment Recommendation

Hi all,

Just now getting around to making some posts regarding our six weeks in Europe and trying to return to %26quot;pay it forward%26quot; for some of the great advice we obtained on these forums while planning our trip. Not all of our trip was good, but I plan to make posts on the parts that I can recommend.

Our stay in Prague was a real surprise for us. We expected to enjoy it, but we were not ready for just how much we enjoyed it. We stayed there for six nights and expected to take day trips to Kutna Hora and perhaps to Karlovy Vary, but instead we found more than enough to do in Prague itself and regret that never got outside the city to visit those two places before we had to move on.

We stayed in an apartment owned (or perhaps just managed) by a lady named Renata Mesova called %26quot;Kozacka Red%26quot;. Someone thought that I was just an advertising bot when I posted a web address in the Paris forums so I will just tell you to search for it on Google it and you should find it. It was listed with a few different apartment finding websites.

We were very pleased with the apartment and found it to be a good value. It IS NOT a luxury apartment. There is no elevator and it is on the top floor of the building (4th or 5th floor), but the stairs were some of the nicer ones that we encountered in Europe (solid and wide staircase with railings). The apartment is sparsely furnished, but has a comfortable bed and couch as well as a small table. It is very minimal in decoration and could really use at least some posters on the white walls, but it is very bright and open with nice natural light. It has a terrace that is overlooking a courtyard that is nothing special, but it gets good sun and is a nice extra. There is a full kitchen (minus oven) and the bathroom has a clothes washer (no dryer as was common in Europe). The apartment was clean and we saw no insects or sign of insects/vermin. It was located about three blocks from a stop on the city%26#39;s excellent tram system. Going down to one of the popular squares was going to take you about 15 minutes from the time you left the door. There is a hostel with English speaking poeple at the desk just around the corner from the apartment that allows you to %26quot;rent%26quot; a pass for the public transportation system at a bargain price and I highly recommend doing that. About five minutes walk is a restaurant named U Bulinu that we really enjoyed and felt was a bargain.

Anyhow... when we return to Prague we intend to stay in the place again (as long as it has the same owner/manager). I just thought that I would get the word out about it. Feel free to ask questions since I have signed up to be notified about responses to the post. I will do my best to answer the questions that you have.

%26quot;rent%26quot; a pass for the public transportation system at a bargain price - what does that mean?

Well they have monthly transit passes that you can %26quot;rent%26quot; for a pro-rated amount of the monthly fee. For example if they pass was $30 and you wanted it for 5 days it would cost you $5 to rent. I don%26#39;t remember the exact amount, but it was a good deal and you didn%26#39;t have to hassle with purchasing and validating tickets all the time. The best part is that you didn%26#39;t even have to be staying there to rent the passes from them.

I just Googled it and the hostel is called the Czech Inn Hostel. Really cool and helpful folks at the front desk there if you%26#39;re staying nearby!

What an interesting service :), however did not realise that transferable passes are valid for adults, only students, childred, OAPs etc.

I don%26#39;t have any idea about that. I can only tell you that is what we did. We were checked only one time by transit authorities during our time there and had no troubles at all.

Thanks so much for the report. We are planning a trip to Prague and this kind of information is very helpful.

You%26#39;re very welcome. I hope that you are as satisfied by your trip there as we were. We are eager to return when life permits it!
