It appears that by coincidence we will be in Cesky Krumlov during the St. Wenceslas celebrations in September. I haven%26#39;t found many details on this event yet--can anyone tell me more about it? Are there things we should definitely take part in, or things to avoid?
Will it be terribly crowded? So far we%26#39;ve found plenty of availability at the hotels we%26#39;ve checked, so that doesn%26#39;t seem to be a problem. I%26#39;m not sure we can avoid it at this point, but if the crowds will be bad we can re-examine our itinerary.
We%26#39;re tentatively booked into the Castle View Apartments, because it sounds so great (saw the Rick Steves episode as well as reading the reviews here!). However, it looks like we will be staying 2 nights, and I%26#39;m not sure we can afford the splurge, when most other accommodations in town seem to be about half the price. Is it really that much better than anything else in town?

The town is not that crowded during the festival because it is still mostly for locals. Most foreign travelers don%26#39;t know about it. There is traditional folk music and dance in the square; they sell young wine; there are markets. It is pretty low key.
I have never stayed at the Castle View but everyone I talked to who has stayed there only had good things to say about it.

Thanks for the feedback! It%26#39;s good to hear it shouldn%26#39;t be too crowded.
We are now leaning towards staying at the Villa Conti--there aren%26#39;t many reviews, but they%26#39;re all glowing, and it allows us to save a good bit of money for a nice meal or some more beer/wine!

The Villa Conti looks lovely. I live in Cesky Krumlov now and for the past few years, the festival was never too crowded. Hopefully, it will not be too crowded this year either. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks! I appreciate your feedback, and it%26#39;s nice to know there%26#39;s a local expert available here. We may well have more questions closer to the trip!
|||
We will also be there in September for a couple of nights. Can you advise the dates or is it for all of September
|||
From what I saw, I believe the dates this year are Sept. 25-28. I think our visit is timed so that we will be there for the end of the festival, and probably stay one day after as well, so we will hopefully get the best of everything!

I just found out last night that the day I wanted to go to CK also happens to be during the St. Wenceslas festivities as well. I%26#39;d like to participate, so I%26#39;m trying to find a way to get to CK for the day without being stuck with a tour group all day. I think that means taking the bus.
Sept 28 is a Monday, Czech Statehood Day, St. Wenceslas%26#39; Day, and during the festival to boot. Will the attractions be open? I assume there would be plenty of food options, it being a festival and all, but I%26#39;d like to see the castle.
However, if the festival would be more fun than the castle interior, a closed castle might not be a deal-breaker. Any thoughts?

Dear Katlanta
All the festivities take place on Saturday and Sunday. Very little will happen on Monday. If you want to experience the festival, come on Saturday -- that is the main day, with plenty of food options, the castle interior open, and all day program in the main square as well as in other places in town. On Sunday, there will be fewer programs and on Monday only very few. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Also on Saturday night, the towns museums will be open for free.

Thanks, Karla SF -- good information to know. We don%26#39;t get to Prague until Saturday, but I%26#39;ll try to make it work, because that sounds great!
