We are planning a trip to the Czech Republic starting in Prague. I am trying to find the best way to get to the little village of Hyncice which is 62 km from Olemouc. We would probably want to be there for an hour or two and return to Prague. I know we can rent a car, but am hoping to find another way. We can get to Olemouc by train, but don%26#39;t see a train to Hyncice. Had wondered if it would be possible to hire a driver in Olemouc for the trip to Hyncice and back. Does anyone know if this would be possible? Any other ideas? Thanks!

First of all let me say, that if you are talking about Hyncice which are actually near Krnov/Albrechtice, then you can%26#39;t just go there for a couple of hours.
You must stay for at least a couple of days. I%26#39;ve done a trip to the area last month, and quite a few times before to Zlate Hory which are just a bit north west, and the area is absolutely wonderful.
I cant%26#39; advice on the train trip, you would probably get to Krnov by a train via Ostrava, ot hire a car in Ostrava, but if you are going all this way, then you need to look around! Trust me, beautiful.

sorry about the typos, just a bit excited, my favourite part of Czech Republic.

I don%26#39;t think it is that Hynčice as it is too far - there are two others, Hynčice nad Moravou next to Hanušovice (of Holba beer fame), or one near Nový Jičín, both of which are approximately 62 kilometers from Olomouc.
There is also Hynčice pod Sušinou, but again, that is probably a bit far and is right out in the middle of nowhere near the Polish border.
Do you know which one it is?
Whichever it is, it is not a day trip from Prague, and as suggested above you should make a trip of it as there is so much to see in the area, not least Olomouc or Kroměříž, both of which have UNESCO world heritage sites.

It is Hyncice that is close to Nový Jičín. Do you know any way to go there by public transportation? I know it is a long day trip. Thanks for your help!

OK your Hyncice are different to mine :)
They must be those between Hranice na Morave and Odry with Novy Jicin to the east?
You can get there by public transport but it is a journey and a half!
The best I think would be to take a train from Prague to Hranice na Morave, then a bus or a number of buses!
From Hranice to Vrazne/Hyncice.
For example:
Take a train from Prague at 6.09 in the morning to Hranice (arriving at 9.23), then wait until 10.25 for a bus to Vrazne/Hyncice (about half an hour trip).
There are no direct buses back, but a bus leaves at 14.33 with a change at Belotin, getting to Hranice at 15.15. And then any number of train back to Prague.
quite a trip.
There might be taxis at the railways station, but not sure. Probably just phone numbers displayed for a taxi to call.
Hopefully GCEK will have a better suggestion.

Thanks for the info, KVKFAN. Yes, it does sound like quite a trip! Hopefully, there is an easier way. I am still wondering about a car w/driver from Olemouc to Hyncice. Or any other ideas???

You could get a direct bus to Nový Jičín at 0515, arriving at 0950 book it here www.studentagency.cz/express/vnitro/?%26en , then you could get a taxi to Hynčice, which shouldn%26#39;t cost much, then you might have to make an arrangement with the taxi driver to get you back to Nový Jičín in the afternoon to get the bus back again at 1615 (again, book using the above link)
Alternatively there is a bus that leaves Nový Jičín bus station at 1000 which gets to Hynčice at 1031 - just pay the driver, and it should cost about 20 Crowns, if that. Look for the bus going to %26#39;Odry%26#39;. There is a bus back at 1445, arriving in Nový Jičín at 1517. Don%26#39;t miss it, though, as they are as rare as hen%26#39;s teeth.
I don%26#39;t imagine there is a lot to do in Hynčice - there are about 10 houses and a couple of farms - there isn%26#39;t even a church - so I would take a picnic with you as the nearest shop or pub is probably in Vražné a couple of kms down the road, and even then I wouldn%26#39;t expect too much :)
BTW The Student Agency buses are really quite comfortable with WCs, refreshments, etc. They go from Florenc bus station which is one stop by metro from the main station.
|||
BTW just a small detail, but it is Olomouc, not Olemouc
(approximately pronounced Olla-moats)

Thanks, GCEK! That%26#39;s great information. I see it can be done......but doesn%26#39;t sound like there is much there. I knew it would be small, but ten houses - that is really small! Our friend, whose grandmother was from Hyncice, really wants to go and see for himself where his grandmother grew up. I can understand wanting to do this. But it is complicated getting there. Thanks again for your help!

I was basing my assessment on this http://mapy.cz/#mm=FP@sa=s@st=s@ssq=hyncice@sss=1@ssp=138049472_132819672_138070336_132835616@x=140951040@y=134402704@z=16 , rather than any personal knowledge of the place. It is so small that even the streets (street) have (has) no name ... According to Wikipedia it has 58 houses …wikipedia.org/wiki/…29 so it isn%26#39;t that bad... :)
SAYING THAT, however, Hynčice (previously known as Heinzendorf in the days when it was inhabited by Germans) is the place of birth of a rather illustrious person - Gregor Mendel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregor_Mendel who made his name as the Abbott of the Franciscan monastery in Brno where he discovered genetics - I knew the name rang a bell as I have done a few translations about him and when I looked it up just now it was confirmed. There appears to be a visitor%26#39;s centre in the house where he was born, but whether it has regular opening hours, or whether it is of any particular interest to a lay person, I haven%26#39;t a clue!
