Hi all
Could anybody please tell me the easiest way to get from the airport to Karlova St. (near the Old Town Square).
Don%26#39;t want to just jump in a cab as we have a few hours to kill before we can check into our apartment.
We will be travelling with 2 children and arriving about 11 am if that should make any difference.
Thanks
Julie

It depends how old are the children and how much luggage you are carrying. Have a look at the cedaz shuttle which would drop you near Namesti Republiky by Hilton, and it would take about 15 minutes walk from there to Karlova via the Old Town Square. If you are OK with public transport then take bus 119 to Dejvicka metro change there for metro for 3 stops to Staromestska. Google for a map of Prague to get your bearings.

Many thanks for your reply.
The children are 11 and 5 and we will only have hand luggage so will try the metro.

Julie,
The most economical way is to take the 119 bus which locates just outside the terminal 2 on the right hand side. You can%26#39;t miss it because you will see people lining up and there is also a sign depicting a bus stop. Before going out of the sliding door and head to the bus stop, turn left and you will see a Kiosk that sells Tram/subway ticket. Here is a photo from someone who been to Prague. fotoalba.centrum.cz/photo.php?pid=7024269
Makes sure to buy the 26 ckc ticket which will give allow you to transfer from bus to subway and ample of time to get to your destination because Prague bus ticket is based on time travel.
The bus ride from the airport to Dejcvicka subway station should take no longer than 20 minutes and you will know when you arrived at the subway because the bus should look to be emptied or people are getting ready to get off the buss entirely.
Go down to the Subway platform and take any subway car you see. All will be traveling one way so you can not be wrong in your choosing.
Karlova is a very popular street that runs pretty much at the edge of the Charles bridge and zig-zag to the Old Town. My suggestion is to get off at Staromestska which is the fourth stop from Dejcvicka. When you get off the subway and taking the long escalator up, turn left or go up the stairs that is to your most left. This stair case should bring you up to the street called Valenstinska which eventually merge into a street called Karprova (different from Karlova) from this street here is the direction to Karlova and Jilska intersection, your apartment or Hotel should be around here.
1. Head south on Valentinská toward Veleslavínova
0.1 km
2. Turn left at Platnéřská
34 m
3. Turn right at Mariánské nám.
54 m
4. Mariánské nám. turns slightly left and becomes Husova
0.1 km
5. Turn left at Karlova
66 m
Here is the Google map of the direction if you are more visual than word

Good luck and have fun.

wow that is comprehensive :) just a few corrections.
if you are arriving from the UK, you will land at Terminal 1, in the arrival hall to the right of the exit door is the Prague transport kiosk.
The bus stop is directly ahead as you leave the terminal, pass the taxis, a small car park, about 30 metres walk.
Dejvicka is the terminal station of bus 119, they will kick you off there anyway, then the bus swings round the big roundabout and picks people back to the airport opposite to where you were dropped off.
Staromestska, the station you should get off, is the THIRD stop. Then follow the map mentioned above, or go via the Old Town square depending how much time you have. Not a problem really but get yourself a map.

PS the tickets you should buy are 2x 26KC for 2 adults
and 1 x 13Kc ticket for 1 child, under 6 years of age can travel free.
