I was wondering what mode of transport is the best to get to the castle. My nearest underground is the muzeum underground. Or is there trams or buses go that way. Is there much to do in round the castle.
Thanks very much for the help

Walk is the best - you see much more that way.
Tram number 22 or 23 from Malostranska will get you closest
%26#39;Is there much to do in round the castle%26#39;? - Errm do you really need an answer to that one? Get a good guidebook before you go (and read it).

Most convenient for you is to go from subway Muzeum to Hradcanska and then walk via interesting Baroque Gate (Pisecka brana) to Summerhouse of Queen Ann and Royal Garden - through the garden you get to main Castle courtyards.

The no23 tram doesn%26#39;t run anymore but the 22 will get you there,my advice is to take the tram a couple to stops past the main castle stop and get off at Pohorelec, this is near the Srahov Monestry and the Loreta,it is an easy downhill amble from there and takes tou away from the crowds getting off at the main castle stop.
You can easily spen a whole day in the castle area

this link will let you see lots of things to do and all that is available in the castle area.

Another vote for unclegus.
You get to see this way more things like Loreta. And the best is that you walk downhill :D

This is where one of my favourite pubs is (Klasterini Pivovar),so thats why i know the way so well.

I was suggesting to walk all the way from Muzeum - along Wenceslas Square, into Old Town Square, along Karlova, across Charles Bridge, up the steps and to the castle. It isn%26#39;t a vast distance and there is plenty to see along the way! It should take a morning or so with a couple of refreshment stops, and with the help of your guidebook you should find out a lot more about the place.

Between an uphill walk and a downhill i take any day the second :D Your route can be done the opposite way staring from the castle area.
A big advantage of going uphill is that you can end the tour in the best possible fashion. A beer at the beerhouse unglegus suggested. You won`t regret it. And it`s cheap too !

My preferred option would be to take the metro to Malostranska, then walk to Malostranske namesti and up via Nerudova ulice to the castle and down again using the steps next to the metro station. And take plenty of refreshments on the way!

U Černého Vola on Loretánské náměstí is a good place to finish after my suggested walk. It is legendary and the beers are relatively cheap (about 26 Crowns).
Then you can walk back down again, perhaps through the Strahov monastery and to the Petřín tower and then on the funicular down to Újezd. BTW if you go that way and were wondering, that great big concrete thing on the hill with the floodlights is the largest stadium in the world which once held over 250000 spectators for the mass gymnastic displays that they used to hold annually.
