Prague

Can anyone tell me is it best to buy Czech currency in the Banks here or buy the currency when we get there ??

Has anyone a good tour operator when we arrive there.

Any other tips for our first visit ot Prague would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks.

There are multiple banks and change kiosks at the airport and throughout Prague. You can wait until you arrive and do a little window shopping. Prices do vary a bit but not drastically.

Also, I went to Prague in March. Used JayWay Travel. It is run by a cool American guy who has lived in Prague for the last 4 years. He can customize a trip for you, arranging nice apartments, tours, transfers and local cuisine. I also used him for Croatia - highly recommended! Check him out at http://www.jaywaytravel.com/

Get your currency when you arrive in Prague. Don%26#39;t change money at the airport unless you have to. Don%26#39;t ever change money from people in the street -its a scam and you will end up with money that is no longer legal tender. Use your credit card and get money from the ATMs which are all over the place - a few in the airport but when I was last there several were out of order. To save money use public transport to get to your hotel (where are you staying) if that is possible. You can get the 112 bus from the airport which connects with the metro service Go up to the castle for the changing of the guard at noon (Sundays is even more special. If you want to go into the Cathedral get up early in the morning as the queues are very long (fast moving but long). Get a public transport pass - its fun going around in the trams and metro on a first visit to a city - even if you don%26#39;t find anything to interest you when you get off well you can just get back on and get off at another stop. Prague is much more than Charles Bridge, Old Town Square etc. Go or walks early morning or late in the evening and avoid, if possible, Wenceslas Square which is disappointing to many people. Take a trip out to Vysehrad on the metro and also to the TV tower in Zistov(sp) for the views and also the excellent restaurant - especially at night.

ATM is the best, then buy several metro tickets, so you don%26#39;t end up with large banknotes. Keep money + valuable safe, make sure you validate your bus/metro tickets. Make trips to southern part of the Czech Republic (Ceske Budejovice, Cesky Krumlov), best with yellow bus (studentagency.cz).

Use ATMs. They have the best rates. Don%26#39;t exchange your currency at the airport or at any of the currency stores in the city. Big ripoff.

When in a restaurant, always, always, always review your bill or check for accuracy. Don%26#39;t hesitate to question a charge if you feel it%26#39;s not correct.
