Trip report

Arrived 3.40pm On Tuesday and was lucky enough to be 3rd of the plane having being sat in the front row.Unluckily the plane taxied into gate A1 which is the very furthest point away from passport control, but after a quick walk was 1st there.

Having only hand luggage walked straight through the baggage area and out to arrivals, changed some money at the ATM (28.6/£) and then bought the 26cr ticket for the bus and metro.Within 1 minute bus arrived and a further 30 got me to dejvicka metro, then 12 mins to namesti miru.

Did not want to go straight to my apartment on Sokolska and headed straight to U Strecu on Budecska

Since I had read they do good Goulash,Got there at 4.43pm not bad 63 mins from touch down to sat at the restaurant even allowing for the long aeroplane taxi to the gate and the 3 mins it takes for the escalator to get you up to ground level at namesti miru which must be the deepest metro in Prague.

On entering the small restaurant Only 3 other customers were sat in there but all the tables I was told were reserved and was ushered through to the back room which was deserted I ordered Goulash(94cr) and a side order of baked potatoes but was told any form of potatoes were not available but was assured the dumplings that came with the goulash were plenty, then for some silly reason I ordered a pilsner urquell (35cr) a drink I do not very much like but will suffer if no other pivo is on offer it came in a bottle and not draught..The goulash arrived in 5 minutes and was good but not the best I have had in Prague which will later be made known.

Here now is the funny thing that must be a first reported here about Prague restaurant billing when

I asked oo-chet pro-seem (bill please) I was told 98 cr but I was sure it should have been 129cr and

had 150cr ready to give to the guy since the service was good, I explained it should be more than he billed me but he said that it was only 98 so here I am arguing with the waiter that he should be taking more of me which was funny given the usual posts hereabout bill padding, anyway I gave him the 150 and left ,one thing to note for some reason the goulash here is listed in the poultry section of the menu.

Went dropped my stuff off and had a quick shower, then headed down to pivovarsky dum on lipova/Jecna Ordered the house classic stepan light ale 35c r0.5l which was very good and then thought

I would try some of the speciality flavoured beers 1st blueberry which good then the nettle beer which was vile, servie here was also very good I then left meaning to come back and taste the other flavoured beers, coffee, banana, sour cherry unfortunately I never did make it back there, but will in a couple of weeks time.

Then headed off to U novaka on v jircharich passing svejk restaurant on the way which I planned to visit the next day, I knew U novaka sells Gambrinus 12, I would not normally go out of my way to drink gamrinus 10 but the 12 is a lot better in my opinion and worth the walk after a couple there I headed up to the old town and then back up to IP Pavlova which was a nice little walk finished off with a few beers in a bar just off legrova and the off to bed.

Wednesday 16th

Got up at around 7am since I can never sleep late when away from home then off down to wencelcas square to pick up some pastries from the small place on the left going down from the museum and a McDonalds coffee, yes I know its sad but I do like McDonalds coffee. Then wondered around for a few hours over charles bridge and into mala strana then back to st nichlas church, before making my back

to base for sit down and chill out.

Did not want to go for food in the busy lunch hours so left it until 3pm before going to svejk restaurant,

I ordered the pork knuckle and baked potatoes but was told they had run out of pork knuckle but the pork ribs were available,so I ordered them, however they were very poor just bone and grizzle and next to no actual meat.I drank the standard gambrinus 10 here which was OK.

I then wandered over to my favourite Prague pace Ferdinanda on opletova and had a few sedm kuli`s(seven bullets) 29cr 0.3l.

I then went up to Kralovstvi in Zizkov a small family run bar which ive drank at many times ,they serve the excellent cerna hora beer here the kavasar 14 is very good.I cant remember much what I did the rest Of the day except that I bought a curry (chicken madras) 120cr keema nan 59cr from himalaya restaurant mikovcova 7 and ended up eating it for breakfast the next day.

Thursday 17th

Went over to Andel to do a bit of shopping in smichov shopping centre then had few beers in a bar on Lidicka.

Then back over to old town and u provaznice was planning to have the pork knuckle but was not very hungry so just settled for a couple of beers.

Then after a 1 hour stroll went up to Ferdinanda and ordered my favourite meal in Prague their Goulash

With baked potatoes 118cr/30cr and a couple of Ferdindanda light ales 27 cr 0.5l.

I then went back to chill out for a couple of hours before heading over to Letna to watch Sparta Prague play PSV Eindhoven in the europa league it finished 2-2 a fair result although psv scored a hotly disputed 90th min penalty.I paid a tout 300cr for a 800cr ticket which was the best seats in the stadium right next to the directors box, he had a hand full and knew it was waste paper if I did not buy one of him since the game was about to kick off and no one else was around to take it off his hands at halftime had 1/2 chicken 70cr.

Friday 18th

Lunch was again goulash in Ferdinanda and few beere before a stroll around then heading up to the airport by metro /bus 50 mins,a quick tip is when at the airport if you want some food go across the car park to the Billa supermarket by the Marriott hotel it is way cheaper than the airport and you can take cans /bottles through passport control since the 1st security check is at the gate before boarding the plane.

I have probably missed things out since I have just wrote this from my dodgy memory.

Anyway should be back in a few weeks which I look forward to.

Swansea,

Nice trip report, glad you did the tour on Goulash and live to tell about it.

Your quote %26quot;....and a McDonalds coffee, yes I know its sad but I do like McDonalds coffee%26quot;,

funny you mentioned that because actually McDonald%26#39;s coffee taste pretty good, definitely it tasted much better than the typical overpriced Starbucks.

How did you like the apartment you rented and how close was it to the Old Town?
