Visit Small Town Breweries?

I%26#39;ve read about all the beers to have in Prague ... is it worthwhile to make trips to the surrounding small towns to visit the breweries? I can%26#39;t seem to find recommendations on getting out of town and eating/staying/visiting breweries. Any insights?

Plzen brewery is very easy to reach from Prague ,I have visited there 4 times now .have a look at these threads for info.

In may this year i took a short trip to Benesov to see the brewery there,could%26#39;ny do a tour but managed to see a bit of the place and spennt the rest of the day at Nearby Konopiste castle,

There are also lots of micro-breweries in prague itself and all are worth a visit to taste the beer.

In my blog go to these labels:

There you%26#39;ll find information about the breweries I have visited around the country.

pivero - maybe I%26#39;m looking in the wrong places on your blog, but you don%26#39;t seem to have any mention of many (if any) Moravian breweries/brewpubs/pubs, or is that on purpose as yours is a %26#39;Czech%26#39; beer blog? Hotel Pegas in Brno makes one of the best beers that I know, and the Černá Hora brewery is, I would have expected, right up your street as it is still privately-owned and makes beer in the traditional manner. Even Starobrno is not bad, and although it is now owned by Heineken, it is a massive improvement on what it used to be when it was state-owned and then by the Austrians - it was virtually undrinkable then.

GCEK,

Haven%26#39;t been to those yet. The only brewery out of Bohemia that I%26#39;ve visited was in Rymarov, which was quite nice.

Have tasted the beers from Pegas. U Richarda, Sentice, Bzenec, etc. And of course, I do drink Starobrno, was the beer stocked at Spejchar, the restaurant of the village I used to live in.

Oh! Yeah! And I love much of the stuff from Černá Hora, specially their Moravksé Sklepní Nefiltrované, and I%26#39;m really looking forward to tasting their new wheat beer.

Na Zdraví!

Good - there are riches awaiting you :)

The nefiltrované is amazing, especially considering its price - about 19/20 Kč in Brno. I was at the brewery in May with a delegation of EU agriculture ministers and they were blown away by it - the boss, Jiří Fusek, is an interesting chap with megalomaniac plans to conquer Russia - where the Czech pub is the new Irish pub, China and Mongolia (apparently they have a Černá Hora pub, or advanced plans to open one, in Ulan Bator!)

They have a very good guide who must have done the tour in (very good) English countless times, as she was the same one that did the tour when I first went about 15 years ago, but she manages to do it without sounding robotic or bored.

The Austrian delegate was very suspicious of the nefiltrované, though, saying that it wasn%26#39;t cloudy enough to be unfiltered, and the Estonian guy sank a litre of the 14% Kvasar without any ill effects. A fun day out was had by all...
