We will be driving from Budapest to Prague in October and wanted to break up the trip by stopping somewhere on the way. So far, our ideas are:
Lunch and a few hours touring the Danube bend town of Szentendre;
Lunch in the Southern Moravian wine centers, Lednice and/or Valtice; or,
an afternoon in Kutna Hora.
Does anyone have any input regarding these locations or suggestions for anywhere else to stop?

I passed through Szentendre on a way to Bratislava a while ago (just for a change of scenery via Sturovo) and it is a lovely place worth visit. But it is just on the outskirts of Budapest, on public transport, about half an hour, you could do the trip whilst you are visiting Budapest.
Lednice/Valtice are about 3 hours drive (you%26#39;d get there for lunch rather than for late breakfast) and it is worth not only visiting but staying in the area for the night, perhaps stopping in Telc, and going to Prague the following day.
I will leave the details to some one who is more knowlegeable about the area. I think I know who!

As well as Lednice/Valtice, you should go to Mikulov http://www.mikulov.cz/tourism/ and have lunch at the Hotel Tanzberg (opposite the old synagogue under the castle) - it is one of the most beautiful towns in the country and is largely overlooked.
Then drive up to Brno through the Pálava UNESCO-protected biosphere reserve and join the motorway there.
Don%26#39;t forget you will need motorway stickers for Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic - these are available from gas stations and MUST be bought before you enter each country - the fines for not having one are heavy and on the spot.
On your way back to Budapest you can see some of the other places. Just make sure that your car is parked securely in Prague and not on the street - it can be expensive, though (about €30/day).

Also, check the distances %26amp; maps. The best:

Nice places around Brno, if you decide to take that route is Macocha/Blansko area. www.blansko.cz/en/kras/moravskykras.php…
Best beer: Cerna Hora; the little town is not bad either...

In that case might as well go all the way up to Litomysl - :)
