Prague/Budapest or just Prague?

Thinking of going to Prague or Prague and Budapest in either beginning of April or Xmas time. Can one stay in Prague for 7-8 nites (by doing day trips)?

Or, should we do 6 nites Prague, 2 nites Budapest (or the other way around- 6 Buda, 2 Prague?)

Hi! Just came back yesterday from an 8 day holiday in Prague. I also considered splitting my trip with Budapest but I%26#39;m glad I didn%26#39;t. There%26#39;s so much to do and see in Prague especially if you like visiting museums. Even if you don%26#39;t like museums, there are many day trip options. We spent 1 night in Cesky Krumlov, very much worth it. This is a general overview of what we did. Figure you need time to have lunch/dinner, shop, buy tickets in between.

Day 1: we oriented ourselves. Took in the sights. All outdoors. Mala Strana. Old Town.

Day 2: Jewish Quarter (half-day), climbed Old Town Hall tower, Powder Tower, Wencelas Square

Day 3: Mucha Museum. Walked to National Theater, Dancing Building, and vicinity

Day 4: Strahov Monastery, Loreta, Royal Gardens, castle, St. Vitus Church, Golden Lane, Petrin Tower

Day 5: Kafka Museum, Klementinum, Communism Museum

Day 6-7: Cesky Krumlov

Day 8: Wallenstein Palace, St. Nicholas Church, Mozart Museum, Church of St Mary Victorius, Vrtbovska Garden, sat outside until dark contemplating St. Vitus Church

Hope this helps.

There is not a correct answer to this.....

There is a wrong one thoug ... No 6-2 days plan!!!

I`d say either go for 8 days in either city (here of course we propose you should visit prague :D :D ) or split it. 4 days in prague and 4 in budapest

If you don`t have to chance to travel oftenly do the second.

Thank you so far for all your thoughts!

Two years ago we went to Budapest for an easter weekend when living in Ireland.....we saw lots of Europe while we were there but Eastern Europe interested us the most.....we are leaving for Prague in a week......I would say that if you don%26#39;t intend to go back go to both cities.....if you do then spend time in both....one of them is worth the trip anyway

I would stay 4-5 days in Prague and 2-3 days in Vienna. It is four hours by train and sorry to anyone I offend...if I had to choose between Vienna and Budapest, Vienna would be my choice. However, if you don%26#39;t like art or palaces I would scrap that. If it is X Mas time - Austria has the X Mas markets too.

I don%26#39;t mind quick Easyjet type of trips either, so if it were my choice all together...Prague and Paris or Italy. (:

Who did you book the trip through. We are thinking of such atrip

We visited Budapest in 2007 as part of our 3 countries Summer tour which we also visited Amsterdam and Dubrovnik. In 2008, we visited Prague, Split and Vienna. Both time we allocated minimum 16 days or minimum 4 days per city.

Although we love our time in Budapest we actually love being in Prague more. In fact, I just came back from a trip to Prague but this time I visited the surrounding of Prague like Cesky Krumlov and Kutna Hora. Yes it is true that one should visit all the places in Czech but only if you have the mean and time to do it. Like one poster posted on this thread, as a first timer, you should visit both places so allocate 4 days each which is doable. Get a taste of both cities and let%26#39;s your desire take you back to the favourite city. If you have the mean and time to do it now, I say sample both and maybe next year or another time, you can always come back and plan your side trip to other areas of Prague or Budapest.

I%26#39;m in mid 30s and I have been traveling to Europe over the last 5 years and I believe I will return to Europe next year and the year after and so on because I am still young and hopefully time and health are still on my side. My next trip will be to Frankfurt and Munich. I will definitely return to Prague but not anytime soon, not because I%26#39;m bored but because Europe is so big and so many cities and castles that I have not seen yet. I have been to Prague 3 times already so it is time for me to visit other areas of Europe. (Strasbourg, Zurich, Montpellier, Bucharest, love to go back to Florence (my fav).

My advice, pace yourself if you%26#39;re young, have a steady job and an easy boss to schedule your vacation.

Enjoy.

I%26#39;ve Been to both Prague (3 times) and Budapest (2 times). Just came back from Prague last weekend. In my opinion Prague has much more to offer the tourist in things to see and do - primarily because Prague was not bombed into oblivion during WW2. Budapest has much less to offer for sights (most remaining seem to have been recreated/rebuilt for tourists), and Budapest reminds me of many other modern Central/Eastern European capital cities. I think Prague is exceptional because of the surviving architecture. Definitely choose Prague.
