Hi!
I%26#39;ve read that Charles Bridge is currently a building site.
Anyone knows when the works will be completed?
Thanks

%26lt;%26lt;Its completion date is 11th June 2010 and the repairs should prevent water leakage and improve the infrastructure of the bridge and its access roads. Repair works cost more than 222 million crowns and doesn%26#39;t concern the stone bridge%26#39;s antique patina as this will be repaired in 10 years time.
Both the thoroughfare of the bridge and the stone railing is to be repaired. Builders have prepared a special construction which will extend to just half of the Bridge’s pavement. They will progress from one area to the next, distances between them will match approximately the distance between arches. Passers-by thereby check for themselves how the work progress.%26gt;%26gt;

If you look on this ebcam you can just see the white covering on the bridge where hey are working at the moment.

That is just one stage - the next stage is due to take about 5 to 10 years http://www.opravakarlovamostu.cz/ and this will commence once the current stage has been completed, hopefully next year.
The next stage will involve the renovation of the outer stone casing of the bridge. Many monument restoration experts have cast doubt as to the integrity of the work that has been carried out so far, but you will always get such objections.
Considering that it was built originally using eggs and has been damaged over the centuries by floods, poor repair work (especially in the last century), trams, traffic, etc, it is not surprising that such extensive work will be necessary in order to protect it for future generations.

Thanks for the webcam links, TORII. They were helpful to better understand the extent of the works in progress.
GCEK, I%26#39;m not objecting about the need to renovate. It%26#39;s a good thing that Charles%26#39; Bridge is being taken care of. I%26#39;m just a little disappointed for not being able to see it %26#39;as it should%26#39;, that%26#39;s all.

Sorry it came over that way - I didn%26#39;t mean it like that :)
Unfortunately that is just the way the cookie crumbles...

Ahah, I guess it is.
And don%26#39;t worry, no harm done. :-)

Or in this case, Charles Bridge ...
