Hi guys,
My wife and I are planning on a trip to visit Vienna and Prague via train in early - mid November and have one day in the middle free so was wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to a possible stopover?
Was looking at staying a night in Salzburg or Cesky Krumlov before heading to Prague but I%26#39;m not if we%26#39;ll be creating more work for ourselves by doing so...anyone have any thoughts or other possible destinations?
Thanks! :)

Getting to Cesky Krumlov from Vienna is tricky and time-consuming. You could do Salzburg - but it is quite expensive that way, and also quite time-consuming - €48 Vienna - Salzburg (buy on the day, no need to reserve), then it is 7 hours by train to Prague (from €29 - www.oebb.at)
Alternatively you could stop off in Brno scroll down to response no. 8 here tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g190454-i147-k3133… which is bang in the middle.

Hi exswoo,
Having one spare day and not visiting Salzburg would be a lost opportunity .Salzburg is a beautiful town worth visiting for its scenic beauty, its palaces and museums.Don%26#39;t miss it. ( I agree with GCEK that it is a detour and a bit costly. But again, are you going to come back to Austria in future ?Decide.

Definitely you have to see Salzburg - if only for several hours. I did that a few years ago %26amp; I hope it still works. Buy a rail ticket Vienna/Salzburg/Prague; get it stamped in Salzburg that you are breaking the trip. After 4-5 hours get on the next train to Prague. In fact, if this %26quot;Break%26quot; still works, you could do it anywhere...Check the Austrian Forum as well...

I would personally make a short (a few hours) stop at Tabor while travelling from Salzburg to Prague. Look at tabor.cz/en/…

The train from what I remember actually stops in Brno on the way from Vienna to Prague. Don%26#39;t forget there are more beautiful cities besides Prague in the Czech Republic that are worth visiting.

Yes indeed - Brno is bang in the middle on the same route and nicer than Salzburg IMO. Also take a look on Google Earth.
