Hello. My husband and I are planning to travel from Krakow to Prague in the first week of January. Can anyone give answers/opinions regarding the following:
a. How many day trains are there and where can I find the schedules?
b. Is it safe to take the day trains on this route?
c. Which would be safer considering it%26#39;s winter--to take the train or a plane?
Many thanks.

I don%26#39;t think the direct day train will run any more after the 12th December, but you will still be able to do the trip but it would involve changes.
For a timetable see www.idos.cz (currently only until 12th December - give it a couple more weeks until the new one comes out).
As for safety - there was an accident on this route a couple of years ago (and I think it happened in summer), but that is an EXTREMELY rare occurrence and it is otherwise extremely safe, as are all trains and also in general in this part of the world. The plane is expensive, but possible - NB I believe LOT flies via Warsaw, which means that it takes as long as the train).

Czech airlines fly to Krakow directly, but a one way ticket is not cheap, 11 thousand crowns!

DBBahn has now been updated for departures after 12th December, and there are no direct day trains anymore, mostly (did not check all) require a change in Bohumin.

hmm, maybe Katowice

Come on guys... there will be almost certainly direct train after timetable change. It is only that CD did not provide DB new schedule for those yet or DB still didn%26#39;t put into system ;)
In case of fares it is easier to purchase domestic ticket Praha-Bohumin and international one Bohumin-Krakow.
You can as well consider SONE+PKP.

OK Vasp - we will see in due course :)

Even though you only want one way, check czech airlines but do it with roundtrip even though you won%26#39;t be using the return. Way cheaper tickets prices than a one way. Crazy I know but its way cheaper booking a round trip than a one way.

Way cheaper than 11000 Crowns can still be way more expensive than the train :)
And I really don%26#39;t think there will be a direct train, but we%26#39;ll see...
