We are taking the train at 7:14am direct from Prague to Salzburg in mid Otcober. I see on Raileurope.com that the price is $103 in economy and $155 in premium.
Is this the best site to use for the best price, or can I get the same ticket cheaper somewhere else?
Also, how much better is premium over economy?

https://eshop.cd.cz/default.aspx?lang=E - forget about raileurope, you can buy your ticket on Czech Railways website, 2nd class only for 489KC one way, that%26#39;s about 25USD on 7.14 train.
Even if you buy it on the day and go 1st class, you will pay nothing near your 155 USD.
|||
your second question will be should I buy the ticket in advance, do the trains get sold out.
No to the latter, you get a better price when buying in eshop to the former.
|||
You can get it here for 489 CZK (= about $25 including reservation) on 2nd class (still very good on that train):

Raileurope is in short one big b******t.

... and don%26#39;t bother with first class either - the minimal increase in comfort level is not worth the huge extra outlay.
Rail Europe should be banned - tell your friends and neighbours. Their UK website didn%26#39;t even pass the trades descriptions act as it was so full of untruths - the US and Australian versions are still highly misleading, and extremely expensive - they have nothing to do with the national rail carriers, much as expedia has nothing to do with air carriers, the difference being that expedia is a bit more scrupulous.

Thanks for all the info!! This is extremely helpful...I am glad I didnt%26#39;t use the total rip off site raileurope!!!

Just to make sure, does the Prague-Salzburg train leave from the main train station near Wenceslas square?
|||
Yes, the trains leave from Hlavni nadrazi, the one near the top of Wenceslas Square.

I took that cheap train ride from Prague to Salzburg and let me just say to bring with you a drink and a snack. Nothing was for sale--no beverage cart. I came from Vienna to Prague a week prior and there was a whole bar cart with wine and food and the trip was 4 hours. So from Prague to Salzburg, which was about 8 hours, there was nothing. I was so thirsty at the end of the trip. It never occured to me they would put me on a train for 8 hours without even one way to buy a soda or water. Live and learn.
|||
that%26#39;s strange, that train (7.14 departure from Prague) should have a restaurant/bar on the train
|||
Exactly. And, additionally, there is a long-enough stopover in Ceske Budejovice to just pick up some drink, which takes about 1-2 minutes. And it is about 6,5, not 8 hours. :-)
