I%26#39;ve read nice things about the Macocha Abyss and the Punkava Caves so it%26#39;s possible that we%26#39;ll make a visit on our stay in Brno at the beginning of October.
I have 2 questions.
1. I%26#39;ve heard that some time of the year the tickets are sold out so reservation is recommended. Is this the case in October if we want to go on a weekend? If we should reserve what is the homepage or the e-mail address which we can use?
2. It was not quite clear for me from the websites how can we get to the top of the Macocha Abyss. If I understood right, from the parking place we can get easily to the caves and during the cave tour we%26#39;ll see the bottom of the Abyss.
And somewhere there is a cable car to the top of it... but where? And how much does it cost?
Any website would help for me if one exists.
I hope you can answer to my questions.
Thanks,
Dora

Hi Dora,
try this website www.moravskykras.net/en/moravian-karst.html - it is about the whole area and you%26#39;ll find all the necessary information there. I wouldn%26#39;t worry about the tickets, but you can send an email there and book the tickets in advance.
Hope this helps.

You should be OK with the tickets at that time of the year, but as Bara says, best reserve in advance to make sure www.moravskykras.net/en/information.html in the summer it can get very busy.
More information here as well www.cot.cz/data/english/00_09/9_reg_7.htm
I am a regular visitor and it is a great day out. You actually park your car at the bottom and a little road train brings you around - it is clear when you get there. All admission fees are here http://www.moravskykras.net/en/open.html
Have fun!

Check also www.blansko.cz/en/kras/mk-balcarka.php…
Also go to the homepage. Some caves do get flooded from time to time; October can get quite rainy...
Anyway, some small towns (Cerna Hora, Boskovice, castles nearby are equally nice to visit. Have a nice vacation.

Thanks for all of you the information and the websites - some of them was new for me.
But it seems there are really no information on the web about the price of the cable-car. :(
I hope we%26#39;ll really find our way and I%26#39;m thinking of reserving tickets.
Thanks,
Dora

Here you go - it is all in Czech, though!
www.punkevni-jeskyne.cz/lanovka-vlacek.php
Basically it is 80 Crowns return on the cable car, or 60 Crowns one-way
For the little train it is 70 Crowns return, 60 Crowns singel
Or for both it is 120 Crowns return or 100 Crowns single.
Children under 6 are free
You might want to run it through google translate to get a better idea of what the rest says, but it is basically the same as the information given in the other links posted above.

wow, this page looks super-helpful! (naturally with the help of google-translator)
Thanks! :)

I was there at the beginning of September. We had made reservations in August but when we went to go pick up our tickets, the guy had no idea. I went up and said I%26#39;ve reserved tickets for the 11am tour, and he actually said %26quot;i don%26#39;t know, did you?%26quot; He didn%26#39;t look up any names or anything, but the tour wasn%26#39;t even sold out so we got in anyway... oh well! It all worked out!
You can choose to walk up to the caves if you wish. It%26#39;s about 2km. Two of us walked, the other two took the train. Both were nice! The cable car is another 100m walk. Signs are everywhere, you%26#39;ll find your way around quite easily

Thanks for the information!
I cannot imagine now how to get back to the cable car after the cave-tour, but hope it will be clear enough when we%26#39;ll be there. :)
Thanks to all of you for all the information. I%26#39;ve printed out a lot of websites and will bring with me :)

It is all very easy - I have been there loads of times and have never needed to bring any printouts with me :)
I have even been there when it was -25C and the snow was 2 metres deep outside. It was absolutely magical and the boat was still full!
Other places of interest nearby are the aforementioned Černá Hora brewery http://www.pivovarcernahora.eu/ and Boskovice, also the Rájec-Jestřebí chateau and, if you like that sort of thing, the goat farm in Šošůvka is quite interesting (and sells excellent goat cheese stuff!) www.sedlakkozy.cz/english/index.php…
Have fun!

We%26#39;ve visited the cave and the Abyss and everything was beautiful!
There was no need to make reservation (but we did).
And the answer to all of my questions was easy: The entrance and the exit of the cave were almost at the same point :) And also there was the lower station of the cable car. :)
Thanks for all your help!
Dora
