u prince/ airport transfers/money/veggie food/beer

Have booked U Prince Hotel but worried about negative posts. Anyone stayed there recently? Is bus/tram journey difficult-should we get taxi?

Thinking of getting crowns in uk-good or bad idea?

Good down to earth veggie food ie no goats cheese wierd food-any ideas.

Good cheap beer/food near tp U Prince Hotel.

Last the weather how cold is it?

Many thanks

partial answer -I travel to Prague very often so always have some money on me, if you are going just once, it is always good to have some spare change on you, although not sure what kind of spare change you%26#39;ll get from the banks in the UK. There are cash points at the airport which you can%26#39;t miss but they usually give %26#39; big%26#39; notes which you%26#39;d need to change before you can buy simple public transport tickets.

As to what is the best to get to your hotel, it all depends how much you are prepared to spend. £20 will get you to the centre of Prague by a taxi. Personally I could not be bothered to lag all my luggage on the bus and metro, but that is up to you.

i%26#39;m a vegetarian who lives here and fortunately love smazeny syr(pronounced smajeny seer) this is fried cheese in breadcrumbs,i have that with potatos and tartare sauce.its one of the few vegetarian dishes that you find in normal czech restaurants .good vegetarian food can be found at pragues best italian restaurant Pepe nero and pragues best indian restaurant (imho) Masala.you will get a better exchange using your cashpoint at the airport ,especially if you have a nationwide card or post office account .many of the exchange places in town are rip offs as are many of the taxi drivers..

For a restaurant with decent prices, about a block from the U Prince would be Mlejnice. We had a vegetarian with us and she found several things to eat on their menu. We ended up eating their twice. The potato dishes are especially good. There are several reviews on TA if you do a search under restaurants. It is about 27th or so in the list.

Thank you all for your advice. Will be reading links you sent this week. So excited-Prague looks magical- just hope its not too cold!

We ate at http://www.lehkahlava.cz/en_novinky.htm (Clear Head restaurant) last Saturday evening - delicious %26amp; not too pricey for food. They allow smoking in the inner courtyard as well!

Beer is definitely the cheapest alcohol - wine %26amp; spirits are very expensive in restaurants. Wander around the back streets %26amp; alleys to find cheaper places to eat and bars that aren%26#39;t geared towards the Brits.

Prague is fantastic - enjoy your stay.

My daughter is veggie and when we ate in %26#39;normal%26#39; restaurants, she always had pasta (or pizza in one Italian place).

We ate several times in a veggie restaurant/shop called Country Life, on Melantrichova. The food is very good, but the way it operates may seem rather %26#39;hippyish%26#39; - she and I loved it, but hubby wasn%26#39;t so keen! You help yourself to as much as you like - none of it is labelled, you just go by appearance! - and they charge by total weight of food taken. You sit at wooden tables/benches and clear up after yourself, as you might in a student canteen. The staff do not speak any English, so we managed with %26#39;dobry den%26#39; %26#39;prosim%26#39; and %26#39;dekuij%26#39; plus a lot of pointing and smiling!

Also, I forgot: one day when we were shopping in the Palladium mall (opposite Obecni Dum) we ate in the basement cafe - I had salmon and she had a couscous thing which she said was very good - it looked good, and my salmon certainly was.
