My husband and I visited Prague in May 2009. One of the highlights of our visit to Prague was taking the PragueWalker “walking tour” our first full day in Prague. It was great to pre-arrange our walking tour over the internet with Katerina Svobodova. She was very responsive to all our questions – how much, where do we meet, what are the tour choices (there were several), who is our tour guide, etc. We even got to read a bio on our tour guide, Irena.
We decided to sign up for the four hour walking tour. So on our first full day in Prague, Irena, our tour guide, met us punctually at 9am at our hotel. This was another plus – she found us, we didn’t need to search for a meeting place.
Irena was a fantastic tour guide. She had an in-depth knowledge of the city and filled us in on tons of interesting historical, political and social events %26amp; people relating to Prague. She herself had grown up in the Czech Republic when it was still under Communist rule and shared some moving experiences with us. It was clear she had a passion for her culture and her country.
Irena started us off by having us take the metro and then a tram (she had purchased the tickets prior to meeting with us) up to Castle Hill, a historic landmark in the city. This was clever to take transportation to get us “uphill” for the first part of the tour saving on our legs, making it easier on us for the rest of the tour which was downhill. We appreciated it!
Up on Castle Hill, we saw the changing of the guard, took a short jaunt into the cathedral where we saw Alfons Muchas’s gorgeous stained glass window, onto the church holding the famous Infant of Prague, then a glimpse of the John Lennon wall constructed in 1980 giving people hope and vision, headed downhill as we took a walk through the picturesque island of Kampa, then across the famous Charles Bridge with all its legends and history, with a final stop at historic Old Town Square where we saw the Astronomical clock.
We highly recommend the PragueWalking tour as a great way to visit key areas of Prague in a relatively short time, as well as befriend a guide from the Czech Republic who can give you insights into the people and culture.
