Spending money

Hi all,

My boyfriend and his friend are heading to Prague next week. They%26#39;ll be arriving early hours of Friday morning, and leaving Sunday afternoon.

They%26#39;re staying at the Ibis Praha Old Town which I believe is within walking distance of the main nightlife.

The purpose of the trip is basically for pubbing/clubbing, so they need money for food (they%26#39;ll be eating out for all 3 meals), drink, and entrance fees to bars/clubs. Effectively they%26#39;ll be there 2 full days and 2 nights, and one half-day on the Sunday.

How much would be a good amount to bring?

Also, they%26#39;re bringing sterling and changing up over there, will the hotel change currency? If not, where is safe to do this? eg should they use a bank? If so, what are the opening hours?

Thanks in advance

See other forums about ATM%26#39;s, money, bankomat...

As the amount of cash depends on you, ATM%26#39;s work the best; as long as you tell your bank where you are going, so they do not block it. Also, redundant as it may have been even last year, travellers cheques are again quite popular for changing money in banks. Check all the fees %26amp; commissions about both from your bank.

Also read all the other useful info (right %26amp; left) on Trip Advisor befdore you go.

Have a great time!

Definitely use the cashpoint to get money, and it can be as cheap or as expensive as you like, so it is difficult to say how much he should budget for! I am personally easy to please so I could do all that quite happily and have a great time on £40 (not including accommodation), but then everyone%26#39;s different ...

The ATM machines do work and most places will either take euro or Krona. Just 1 thing, having read many reviews people make it sound as if Prague is dirt cheap. Having just come back from there 2 weeks ago I did not find it dirt cheap at all, so be warned. You can find the very odd place where you can get a glass of wine and a main course for 2 for about £18 but that is a rarity. Steer clear of the main tourist attractions when eating and look down some of the smaller side streets. This is where you get the best value for money. Don%26#39;t know about the clubs.

I%26#39;d reckon on about 4000-5000 CZK or £150 per person. But use the ATM on arrival for the best rates. Its true Prague is not dirt cheap. The Sterling exchange rate was close to all time lows a couple of weeks ago but has improved since. Beer is cheap. Steer clear of the main tourist drags for best value.
