Have shifted from U Prince and the old town square to a hotel overlooking the river and easy walking distance into old town. Machtuv Palace doesnt have a restaurant and you pay extra for breakfast. Have looked at President, Intercontinental and U Zlateho Stromu. Cant make up my mind having trawled through numerous sites for hours. It%26#39;s hubby%26#39;s 60th birthday and it%26#39;s a surprise trip next October. Still toying with Savic as well. Would love Leonardo but really expensive for River View - £962 for 5 nights. Can anyone help me - I%26#39;m going round in circles!!!

No :)
I am staying at Pachtuv Palace next week, and thought they do have a restaurant! But even if not, there are plenty of good places in the vicinity, i.e. Bellevue restaurant, for a special meal. When I compared prices of some of the hotels you mentioned, Pachtuv Palace cames out as a very good value, even though the breakfast is extra (20 euros per person I think).
Intercontinental is in a good location with views over the river and 5 minutes walk to the Old Town.
I don%26#39;t like President, and know nothing much about Savic.

Just noticed that you are talking about October 2010 - your husband will be 60 only once, so I would go for the place you really like, you have the whole year to save for it and 1000 pounds is not that much in the general scheme of things. And it will really be special.
Good luck.

I would pick 3 best ones, the most expensive ones have websites %26amp; explain your situation...Also sign up for any specials through different travel sites. Let them fight over you, not the other way round. Pick the best for price %26amp; quality but do not prepay....You want the best; I agree with KVKFAN...
