Hi all,
I am going from Prague to Krakow on December 29th, 2009, and would like to take the bus, as it is the cheapest method I%26#39;ve heard and is the same duration as the train. I cannot find any bus lines or travel info (prices/timetable/ticket info) on buses from Prague to Krakow.
If anybody could help steer me in the right direction IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Thanks so much!
Krissy

http://www.regabus.cz/o-nas.htm - this is one company which advertises transport to Krakow.
personally I would prefer to take the train, there are special prices from Czech railways which would be very comparable with the bus.
|||
Thank you! Is there an english website? The language options were only Eastern European I believe.
And is there a website for the train you were referring to?
Thanks again!
|||
I apologise, did not notice there is no English option, so that would probably indicate that the company provides services for predominantly east european customers.
https://eshop.cd.cz/international/info.aspx - this gives you info about international tickets which can be bought on line, however it is valid only till 12th of December. There will be a new timetable commencing 13th December so the site would need to be checked again closer to that date.
For connections see
jizdnirady.idnes.cz/vlakyautobusy/spojeni/ - english button bottom right.
again, only valid till 12th December.

Train is better. A few years ago I did one trip by bus (Eurolines) and back by train, and the train was much better. I have just checked both: Polish, Czech %26amp; English versions for both - I don%26#39;t think there is a bus directly to Krakow... Unlike trains, however, their new 2010 schedules in .pdf are available....

I think there is a bus, but its final destination is Kiev or somewhere else in Ukraine so it is usually filled with Ukrainian workers who have anaesthetised themselves with vodka to make the journey go quicker. I once did a similar journey to Banská Bystrica (which was ultimately going to Ukraine) and it was certainly lively and fragrant.
29 December is a Tuesday, and according to the Rega site on Tuesdays the bus leaves Prague at 16.00 and arrives in Krakow at 16.30, presumably the next day - which can only be a mistake, or else it sits around in Olomouc all night.
I too believe that your only feasible choice will be the train.

If you cannot find a page in English just paste the whole page onto Google translate.

OK, thank you guys, I am convinced the trains is a better option now! Are there any other sites besides eurorail for tickets, because the ones on that website are all over 100 USD, and I saw in other forums that there are cheaper?
Thanks!
|||
Dont%26#39; bother with eurorail - these guys are just resellers and not very reliable.
I gave you the link above to Czech railways eshop, no need to attempt to buy anything now, plenty of time in the future, the trains don%26#39;t sell out!

Not only are they not reliable but are a huge ripoff and the website is full of untruths - just as an example they didn%26#39;t get past the UK trading standards commission and the US version of the site isn%26#39;t even accessible for this reason in the UK - instead there is a %26#39;toned down%26#39; version, but the prices are still the same. Don%26#39;t go near with a bargepole.
If the day train still exists next year, and the prices are the same as this year, it should cost from €19 that link above in English https://eshop.cd.cz/international/info.aspx… . Otherwise a bit more for the night train, but still a lot less than what Rail Europe would charge - you would have to buy a ticket for the night train on the day or directly in Prague a couple of days before travel (unless there are changes in the meantime). As stated above, trains do not (cannot) sell out.
