Hello,
me and my friends are going to spend and celebrate the New Year%26#39; Eve in Prague. We will stay in one of hotel in Prague 8.
Could someone describe this area (shops, restaurants, bus and tram stations)?
I would be grateful for help!

Prague 8 is quite a big area, you need to be more specific as to exactly you where are staying.

Some useful info:

So, we will stay in Altis Hostel (Pod Plynojemem).
I hope this information helps You to make me more knowing about Prague 8.
Clubs, malls, restaurants interest me the most.
Thanks for Your help!

use this map http://www.mapy.cz/ - and top left hand where is says Hledej
enter Pod Plynojemem Praha - that small triangle between Sokolovska, Pod Plynojemem and Na kopecku is your hostel. Right opposite to Hotel Olympic.
This is not a touristy area, slighly run down, but plenty of cheap eateries and bars (click on that knife and fork).
It is very good for public transport, metro line B (between Invalidovna and Palmovka) www.pragueexperience.com/maps/metro.asp
It is also on a tram line, a couple of tram lines, both of which will take you to the centre within few minutes.
I expect that you will spend most of your time either sightseeing or shopping of clubbing in town centre rather than this area.

For a streetmap experience, use www.norc.cz - enter the street and number in the search box, make sure you have ticked the %26#39;street view%26#39; box and away you go! (click the top right corner to get full screen)

It looks as though they took the images for that part of Prague at dusk, but you can still make it out. BTW - the name of the street %26#39;Pod plynojemem%26#39; (Under the gasometer) gives you an idea of the area it is in :) Hotel Altis is a very small little place, next to a locksmith%26#39;s - it doesn%26#39;t look like a hotel at all.
The area was originally earmarked for an Olympic village for Prague%26#39;s entry to the 1980 Olympics (hence the Olympik hotel - which has had a bit of a disastrous history). However, when Moscow announced its candidacy they were forced to stop all work, and the area sort of stood still since then.

Hi
For the map and basic info take a look at http://www.mapsofprague.com/prague-8. In this particular area there is not so much to see - but districts Holesovice, Karlin or Zizkov are not so far and full of good restaurants and clubs. There is no big mall nearby. You can get with trams 8 or 24 easily to the city centre. My favourite pub in Prague 8 is Pivovarsky klub near Florenc (http://www.gastroinfo.cz/pivoklub/index.php?content=uvod〈=eng%26quot;%26gt;). They have typical czech meals and lot of types of draught beer.
