We are going to Cesky Krumlov in April 2010 and intend to stay overnight. Can anyone please advise which is the best transport.. bus or train? If bus, is the Student Agency bus line the one to choose? Any help would be appreciated.

Train takes about 4 hours and needs one change in Ceske Budejovice, bus takes about 3 hours and is direct. The train costs circa 200 Kc, bus 100 Kc.
Student Agency buses seems to be preferred by TA posters, and needs to be prebooked. There are other intercity companies for which you just turn up and pay the driver. But the seat will not be quaranteed.
For current transport ideas to Cesky Krumlov look at this website and select from/to and some arbitrary date, there is an english button option bottom right.

So it depends on your personal preferences, either train or bus will get you there safely. Personally I would take the train, really dislike buses, but that%26#39;s just me.

Thanks KVKFAN, will check out the website you posted. We don%26#39;t mind the bus, so maybe will go this way.... it%26#39;s good to get first hand info. Thanks again!

you%26#39;ve made a good decision staying overnight, enjoy your trip

In case you don%26#39;t have it.
By April next year they might even have a direct train - I am almost certain there used to be one that ran in the summer (I would be my personal choice, notwithstanding the time that it takes), however it couldn%26#39;t hope to compete time-wise (or price-wise) with the bus, mainly because of the lack of rail infrastructure.
Even though I hate buses as a rule, I have to admit that the Student Agency buses are really not bad, even if they do show films like %26#39;Mr. Bean%26#39; or %26#39;Mamma Mia%26#39; - but they do show some good ones sometimes and I know people who choose their bus time purely on the film that they are showing :)

I would defnitly choose a train, they are so compafratble vs the bus and you are sure to enjoy the ride.
Be careful that the trains sometimes split and you might find yourself on the way to Bratislava, which happened to my foreigner friends...

Not on that route you won%26#39;t...:) I can%26#39;t think where that might have happened. But I agree - it is definitely more relaxing and comfortable.

Personally, I prefer trains, but 2 routes are better by student agency buses:
Prague to Liberec %26amp; Prague to Cesky Krumlov. The last time I took a train from PRG to Ceske Budejovice, there were substitute buses for part of a trip (nahradni autobus!) - squashed like sardines...Never again, but as GCEK says, perhaps they were upgrading the railway system. Hopefully they%26#39;ll do the same for Prague/Liberec/Dresden....any news on that?

If I can recomand you, rent a car. You will see what you want and even more. You can look on this websites: www.praguerentacar.cz . Or you can go by bus www.studentagency.cz

Thanks everyone for your advice... think we will travel by Student Agency bus. Have had a look at their website and it seems to be pretty easy to buy a ticket over the net (and see what movie you%26#39;ll be watching!!!). Have heard nightmare stories of people not being able to get on buses, so we%26#39;d prefer to have a ticket in advance. Thanks again. Happy travelling!

We took the Student Agency bus to Cesky Krumlov in September and it couldn%26#39;t have been easier! The bus is very new, clean and comfortable and drops you just outside the town. Definitely reserve tickets in advance (we did ours online before we left) as the buses were very full and I saw people who did not have reservations be turned away.
