This is aimed at the drinkers.
I%26#39;ve been to Prague 4 times already and am due to visit next week.
Now, in my past visits i have been to many pubs and have drunk many pints/litres of the finest beer on earth. I have seen on the internet that there are pubs that sell unpasturized Beer. My question is - i%26#39;m not sure i have ever tasted the mentioned beer before, how am i going to tell the difference, and i would appreciate recommendations of best places to drink it. Only a flying 2 day visit this time so my aim is quality over quantity. An indication of prices would be great too.
Many thanks
Jimbo

check out these websites lots of info on various great dinking places several of which are Tankova pubs.There are aslo several micro-breweries mentioneed on these lists and I can highly reccommend them all,but the St Norberts amaber beer from the Klasterini Pivovar and the Oldgott from U medvidku were two of my favourites.
now you do know of the Prague Beer Festival In May,I have already booked for it.

You know what, i knew i could trust you two guys to help me out with this one being fellow Beer drinkers. Read your blog KVK and have been to 2 of those pubs mentioned (Tygra and Vola). Have they always sold unpasturized Kozel/Pilsner? If they have in the last 5 years then, yes, i would have experienced it and i will say now that its the best beer i have ever tasted (and i do like to experiment!). The Kozel in the Vola is the best beer i have had in its price range. Any must drinks? Really into my ales here in the UK so the more varied the better.
As far as the BeerFest goes, i would love to visit. May get my best pal to come along with me, provided i get the green light from the boss!

Thanks for the compliment but must regretably decline - it is not my blog it is written by pivero - hopefully he will join your thread. (I wish I was that knowlegeable :)) You can send him an email!

Yes,Pivero%26#39;s blog is great.
I have actually had the Kozel striaght from the brewery ,it was lovely but the Pilsner Uerquell from the huge casks in the Brewery cellars is for ,me the suprem glass of beer.
Do try some of the micro breweries ,they usually have a couple or three different beers to try,not the worst way of spending an hour or so.

Can i just ask if the unpasturized beer gives you less of a hangover due to the natural processes or am i just not drinking enough?! Last time i remember having a substantial amount to drink yet feeling alot better than if drinking say Heiniken?
|||
I honestly don%26#39;t know,but in all my travels to Prague and the Czech Republic I can never remember ever having more than a slight hangover .the beer on its own has never ever given me a hangover only when i have had Becherovka and Slivovice chasers have i had anything close to one.
Good news though.
nephewofunclegus is soon to make a reappeance on this forum and is coming to join his uncle for a few days at the Prague Beer Festival.
I have promised him a little trip to Plzen just to taste the nectar at its source.
|||
As long as it is the filtered kind, Czech beer, when in good hands, won%26#39;t give you a hangover, at least not the Pale Lager.
About the unpasteurised stuff. Tankovný to visit in the centre.
Bredovský Dvur: Pilsner Urquell. (http://bredovskydvur.unas.cz/)
U Medvídku: Budvar (www.umedvidku.cz)
U Cerného Vola: Kozel (no web page, located in Loretanské Nám.)
Then there are other beers that aren%26#39;t pasteurised at all. Look for logos with Svijany, Bernard, Primátor, Klášter and of course, the several brewpubs scattered around town.
As someone said above, you can find more info in my blog http://www.pivni-filosof.com/ (BTW, thanks for the compliments guys)
Na Zdraví!

Pivero,in U Cerného Vola do they do the Light and the dark Kozel?
I like both but my mate and my nephewisare huge fan of the light Kozel,we would love to get along there and sample a few........................... purely in the interest of reseach of course.
|||
UncleGus, this is my favourite pub and i only ever drink the light Kozel, in fact i don%26#39;t i have ever been offered anything else there. The Kozel there is, in my opinion, as good a beer as you%26#39;ll find anywhere in Prague, but i would of course like Pivero to tell me wrong! Last time i think we paid 25ck at the Vola, and as i%26#39;m there next week, would be nice to know if i can expect the same?
I also love the fried bread and melted cheese they do there to, is it called nevea or something on those lines? Its heart attack food for sure but is just so tasty. We normally order snacks with every beer!
