hi , looking to book a 3 day city break in the middle of january with prague being my preffered choice , just wondered if maybe its to early in the year for sightseeing etc in regards of the winter weather in prague ... , or would it be best to go later in the year , obviously we want to see as much as we can
Well obviously all of the sights are still there - they don%26#39;t hibernate for the winter :)
good reply ...,thats i then, im coming to prague , will i need my snowshoes ?
Impossible to say, but on the balance of things probably unlikely :)
Comfy boots + another pair. I am not sure whether they still put salt on sidewalks (pavements), but you may be lucky with great weather, Anyway, more chances for nice hot tea with rum...

January is my favorite time to visit Prague, everything is open but the crowds are less ad of course you have the January sales!
TORII

thanks TORII ., have definently decided to book prague in january now , i love the fact it will be a lot quieter and the wife will of course love the sales ! budapest and madrid will just have to wait !
check a long range forecast before you come it may well be well below freezing..
Just prepared for cold weather, it was -18 when I was there in January 2006, but I think it was excessively cold that year.
-18 is just about right. As long as you have plenty of layers and a long overcoat it is quite refreshing, and it keeps the crowds away! It also brings out the %26#39;blitz spirit%26#39; in people - but you won%26#39;t get snow at those temperatures.
It is my favourite time of year as well.

Sorry, but I think Prague is a miserable choice in January. The skies are almost invariably gray, and it%26#39;s cold and damp. Don%26#39;t harbor any notions of a beautiful, snow covered city with bright days because it probably won%26#39;t happen.
It%26#39;s the middle of October now, and it%26#39;s been raining and snowing off and on for the past few days with little weather improvement in sight. Low temps are 0 C and highs have been around 3 C. January is much worse.
Certainly, there are fewer tourists, and for good reason. Last year, my wife and I traveled to Spain for January to avoid the crappy weather.
