Hello,
I%26#39;ll be making my 5th trip to Prague shortly. Since I%26#39;ve been there before, I%26#39;ve done most of the usual tourist activities (Old Town, Petrin Hill, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, etc) and wandered around most of the centre many times. I%26#39;m looking for some places more off the beaten path so to speak. Any suggestions that is no so common that may be interesting to visit? Unfortunately I will be alone this time and will not have my colleagues at the local office to take me around, so any place too off the beaten path where language is an issue might be a problem. I%26#39;m also thinking of perhaps some excursions to Karlovy Vary and other areas outside Prague but I%26#39;m more of a type that likes to stay in the urban centres. I%26#39;m also thinking trips out to Brno and Plzen.
Any suggestions are most welcome.
Thanks!

I%26#39;m returning to Prague soon and, with half a day to kill before my friends arrive, I%26#39;ll be doing my favourite off-the-beaten-track walk.
Head away from Malostranska station east up the river embankment. Up the hill through Letna Park catching the monumental awefulness of the Metronome site (great views) and some lovely secluded private villas. Head towards the National Technical Museum - sadly still closed but you can nip into the matching Agricultural Museum next door to experience the wonderful Functionalist architecture (and an extensive tractor collection!). Up Kostelni and Veverkova to the modern art collection at the Veletrzni Palac; even if you%26#39;re not into modern art the building itself is awe-inspiring. Through Holesovice to my favourite place in the whole of Prague (really) - the Vystaviste exhibition site. A crazy jumble of buildings, a run down pleasure park full of families, music blaring out over the loudspeakers, it%26#39;s just so different to the tourist centres. And most importantly the wonderful Lapidarium which is one of my favourite museums anywhere. Worth going just to see some of the original statues from Charles Bridge up close and personal with no crowds. Get a tram back into the centre. In fact you may want to do it the other way as the climb up Letna%26#39;s pretty steep.
I%26#39;ve spent quite a bit of time in Karlovy Vary and it%26#39;s certainly worth a trip. You certainly wouldn%26#39;t have any problems speaking English there as it%26#39;s totally geared up for tourists. In fact there%26#39;s probably more Germans than Czechs there at most times...
